Having been converted from a hater-of-baths (soaking in your own filth, I've always thought) to a tolerator of Swedish baths, I now present what I have discovered are the essential ingredients of a long, lovely soak:

You mean you NEVER knew about that? Oh my god, no wonder. Try also a couple of drops of lavender oil after a really tiring, stressful day and a bath pillow for that neck.

I have been lately looking for the perfect bath pillow. I bought one of the those solid foam butt-cheek looking things at Hemtex. It was too hard. Tried a rolled up towel. Too soft. Surely the next one will be just right!

You forgot the sexy man to scrub your back for you. Oops, is it okay to say that - does your mum read this?

I'm afraid I belong to the "soak in your own filth" school of bath-loathers. I've seen those "bath rings" of scum on other people's baths and it just turns my stomach. I think I have an overactive imagination.

I think that's part of why I was a filth-hater before - the scumminess of the tub. If I were to take a bath (rare) I'd scrub the bathtub first. But I swear, Marie, Swedish tubs are made of a magic material that repels dirt and germs and ekkiness. You just use that lovely handheld shower thing and rinse away the fairy dust before filling it right to the top with hot water. I'm using my own overactive imagination for good, not evil!

(And yes, my mom reads my journal but she it takes a lot more than the thought of sexy Björn scrubbing my back to shock her!)

me too on the other people's filth. especially in jacuzzis and the like where the real dirt and germs are hidden within the jet tubes that never (or far too seldom) get cleaned. (which is unfortunate because how lovely isn't it to stew in a jacuzzi!) :-(

ps: i think i saw inflatable bath pillows at the "granit" store - or was it possibly lagerhaus? - on södergsatan in malmö. could that be something for you? (they were rather simple plastic ones though.)

Hmmm...is Diana Gabaldon I see? Love love love her work. I can definitely imagine it to be good bath reading, were I ever to read in the bath. I know plenty of people who do, but I just can't get the hang of A. taking soaky type baths, or B. not dropping the book in the water. Alas.

My bath time has increased from about 2 minutes to an amazing 45 minutes last night. It's all about the prep, as indicated in the photo.

Diana Gabaldon, yes - I'm thoroughly enjoying that series about Claire and Jamie (ohhhh Jamie!). And I could never drop the book in the tub because it belongs to lizardek. That'd just be wrong.

I am reading that book right now!! Okay, well, RIGHT now I am typing to you. But that is my Book of the Moment. And, just yesterday, there I was in the tub, book in hand. Read on, soaking sister...read on!

That book also explains the little splash of whiskey in my photo. Claire had cramps and the whiskey relieved them. It sounded like a wonderful old-fashioned remedy.
