When food was scarce (medieval/renaissance and earlier), fat was seen as beautiful. It indicated that the person had enough resources to obtain lots of food and to eat it themselves.

That's right. But nowadays, being fat gives the impression that you're lazy, hedonistic, too comfortable, passive, greedy, and so on. Someone else on my list posted something very interesting about how people are a lot fatter, on average, now than ever before and how this speaks about our lifestyle and values.

There's also the fact that it's expensive and time-consuming to eat healthily.

I think they were just giving a personal impression :) But actually, it's something you read about in all kinds of papers and magazines, and on TV too...

And that would be why I was pointing out the above article, as it's one of the few media pieces I've seen to counteract that opinion. :)
