Oh boy... so much teen (and in some cases I've seen, adult) drama over online friending and Friends lists. =/ Even when I was in school ages, I never made that kind of fuss over who I was friends with in RL, etc., and I probably wouldn't have done it online either. For what it's worth, I typically only add people whom I know and like -- and often after asking them first if it's okay. ;)

And I certainly would never consider someone with a short Friends list to be "uncool" or "lame" -- they just might happen to be more selective and/or don't have as much contact with the online community than others do. And someone who has a large mutual Friends list just happens to know a lot of people.

Anyway, thanks for posting this. =)

I agree on the small list issue. It's interesting how there's something of a psychological obligation you expect when you request flisting with all ranges of anticipation and hesitation involved.

This reminds me of a headline article I saw on an issue of "Time Out" about how geekiness is becoming "in." I guess the idea that someone would make a fuss about it to do an article on it may just be that sign.

I only saw it as a flyby on the way home from work, but I looked around and think I found it.

Wow! Great article. Thanks for the link!

As someone who works with middle school students, it's always interesting to peer into their world. Yes, even the 6th graders know that they aren't allowed to update their MySpace in the library-- because *they* bring it up when we brainstorm the computer/Internet dos and don'ts...

The appeal of Myspace and Facebook still baffles me, but the same thing applies to the teenybopper LiveJournals. I guess I'm just not their target audience. *snicker*
