Interesting! Not too much difference between the two I checked, which are the versions I've heard around Australia. I don't believe that it's due to any distinction in meanings/application of the word, but rather an effect of accent (East Coast vs South Australian etc) and also simply education. I think it would have been originally dA-'bäk(l&) but over time, drifting from the original French pronunciation and with the mutation/dialectic/slang/lazy pronunciation become dE-'bä-k&l (due to lack of familiarity with pronunciation of accents and vowels in French, and a lack of accents on the word as it is used and recorded in modern English in Australia).
