We saved 1500+ dollars driving to FL. Admittedly it takes a certain cussedness to do it but it costs less and you have more control

Yup, driving all the way. I don't mind flying, but I feel a distinct lack of control when I'm in an airborne tin can o' doom.

There are a great many times it makes sense to drive. Time is the only thing planes can save, and only on long trips.

While I love trains, I have yet to find a situation where they make sense in time and money.
