The child has returned. And she has brought back all manner of cool gifts and things. Apparently, she was spoiled. And between her last trip to Morocco and this trip, she now has enough jewelry to open her own store. And it's all gorgeous ( Read more... )

We are a pair! Uncannily so, even. I went to the airport in braids and she arrived at the airport in braids. We look so much alike, it's scary. We're very Gilmore Girls-esque. So, no, not scared. Resigned.

She asked me about ladybugs and how is it that they represent luck. Is there a story behind this?

The child is perhaps the easiest person to shop for. She loves nearly everything and, unlike her cousin, who is excessively spoiled, she rarely disdains anything.

Her aunt just didn't understand why no leather, when it comes to shoes. They seemed to get that I don't eat any animal, but to not wear any animal? Leather is such a predominant material in their goods.

I miss you very much. We must talk soon. I need someone to talk me off a ledge. And no, not that kind of ledge. You know what I'm talking about. And I want to know all about F and dinner - how did he react to what happened - and about that other thing you texted about and school and graduation.

Yay! You're back! I've missed you, too. It's so weird to not have you around me while I'm going about my day. Somehow or other, one of us has to move, I think.

I'm up for a phone call now, if you want and if it's not too late. Otherwise, I should be home a lot this weekend. The child's room is still nowhere near clean. I fear we're going to be at this until she graduates.

I'm willing to listen, if you want to talk about that thing. And I should probably share whatever it is that I'm feeling about that thing. Cause, yeah.

Yay for getting to graduate on time! Boo for not having enough time to prepare for the exam. I'm sorry my holiday took away from your study time. But I know you will show this exam who's boss and will rightfully kick its ass. Cause you are that awesome. I will be thinking of you. Alas, in my sleep, but still.

*hugs* Bon courage et bonne chance!

Welcome back, Child! I am glad she had such a wonderful time and your entry has reignited my desire to visit Morocco (maybe 2008). I bet you both missed each other very much. Have fun reconnecting this weekend.

She had a lovely time, from what I can gather. She ate lots of cashews and chicken and/or turkey. Her grandmother doesn't speak English or French, but knows the word "dinde," which is technically French for turkey, but since she doesn't know the French word for chicken, she uses it to cover both. She was spoiled beyond belief there, but not just with material goods. Her family loves her and they absolutely dote on her. And it was good for her to be around that this summer.

The reconnecting might have to wait until later, though. All she wants to do is sleep. Not that I can't relate. When you spend over a day in transit, sleep is very much on your mind.

Oh! The child will likely be going back to Morocco in 2008. Let me know if you're serious about going. I could get you all kinds of info on things that are going on, what things cost, etc. I'd love to go in 2008, as well, but I'm planning on going back to Italy that spring.

I'm so glad she's back and that she had a wonderful time!

Yeah, people here have a hard time with veganism, so I can't even imagine how hard it'd be with a language/cultural difference.

Hugs to you both!

She had a great time. Did all kinds of interesting things - aka going to the beach - and even got to see some former classmates from Edmonton. Plus, she got to eat cashews all the time. (I'm jealous. I love cashews.)

It's not so much an issue with not eating certain things, but not wearing leather and other things that seem problematic. But yeah, it's not common there either.

*hugs back*

Huzzah! The child is back! The child is back!

Now, when do you pull out your hair when she refuses to clean her room again :p

The child is back. I can tell. I have to think about providing three meals a day. At regular intervals, even.

We're going to work on getting her room clean, by pulling a Neat. We're taking everything out of her room and only those things that I say can be let back in will be allowed back in. And I have a friend coming over on Wednesday to act as taskmaster.

The hairpulling? Maybe in a month's time when her soon-to-be organised and clean room will go back to looking as it is now.
