Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving. For the first time in years, I'm actually preparing a version of a traditional meal. Except vegan. Homemade tofurky, stuffing, pumpkin pie, purple potatoes and gravy. All vegan. Plus, grilled asparagus and zucchini. I anticipate lots of leftovers ( Read more... )

Thanksgiving is such a North American holiday. But it's not exactly the same in Canada as it is in the US. For one, we never had pilgrims.

Thanks!

Yes, I see. It's months earlier, too.
Our next holiday will be Nikolaus on Dec 6th. Children put out their shoes at night and the next morning they find a little something in it *g*.

Canadian Thanksgiving is 6 weeks earlier than American Thanksgiving. Or, so I think. US Thanksgiving is always at the end of November and Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October. After this, we have a holiday-ish in November and then Christmas and Boxing Day on Dec. 25th and 26th.

I know of Nikolaus. I always thought that it was really cool. In France, it's also the shoes where the gifts appear. At least traditionally. Per "Cher Papa Noël".

I should put my thoughts together and post them. Soon.

Yes you should!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

We spent a good hour after the episode discussing it last night. That's one of the great things about watching with fellow academics. Lots of positing and theorising. And I couldn't stop thinking about when trying to go to bed or when I woke up this morning. I just need to sit down and really put my thoughts to paper. Maybe after my interview tomorrow.

I need your recipe book. When I was vegan, no matter how much I tried to manage my protein intake.. I always lost weight. I would eat SO much, but it didn't seem to matter.

I guess it doesn't help that I have some sort of digestive issue though :P

I wish weight loss was easy for me. Weight is something I've always struggled with.

I have a number of cookbooks - a Mediterranean Vegan cookbook, How It All Vegan, as well as a few other vegetarian cookbooks. I use and/or adapt them to my needs. I also use online resources - there's the vegrecipes community and some websites - and I just try things. That's about it.

I'm not necessarily an accomplished cook. Or even a good one. But I enjoy the activity and the results. Mostly.

I hope you're doing okay. You're in my thoughts. {{{hugs}}}

Oh, that's so cool! Veganism is relatively new to me, at least from my practicing it. I've only been one since this past spring. I haven't found it that hard, but you really have to read labels very carefully. They slip in all kinds of things that are animal-derived in products where you would least expect them. So, yeah, there have been a number of unintented slip-ups.

Best of luck!

Ohmigod! You must see it. But don't read any comments on it, until you have. So much happens. Oy.

I'm taking the child to see Serenity again this afternoon and then it'll be time for dinner. By then, you'll likely be offline. And tomorrow when I wake up, I have a bunch of errands to run (job interview, take child to the doctor, pick up VM dvds), so I won't be home until probably 1 pm MT, which is 9 pm your time. Would that be okay?

I miss you too. Take care. {{{hugs}}}

Sure, tomorrow night is fine for me. Talk to you soon!
(VM download is 70 % right now, so I'll have - hopefully- watched it already tomorrow when I get online!*squee*)

Excellent! It's a date.

Also, I posted two phone posts last week. If you wanted, you could download them and hear my actual voice and how I talk.
