I object to this. I am over 40. I don't join in many protest marches (unfortunately, my job kind of forbids me to participate in anything that might possibly get media attention) but I still write letters, join groups, donate money, participate in (non-televised) events, etc. No, I'm not going to go fight in a war; I'm a disabled woman over 40. No armed forces in the world would accept me! (They wouldn't have accepted me when I was younger, either.)

True, and it's not like all young people are left-leaning activists either. Many are perfectly happy to piss away their time making pointlessly hurtful anonymous comments on YouTube and the like.
