Everyone Draw Muhammad Day - Oh Hell No

May 20, 2010 07:30

I almost blew off drawing anything for "Everyone Draw Muhammad Day" because of lack of free time, but then xianjaguar and shadowfox24 posted out in their journals that Furaffinity posted the following on their front page:

"Draw Muhammad Day: 5/20/2010 has been designated 'Draw Muhammad Day' by the Internet. While we do permit artistic freedom, please keep in mind that ( Read more... )

Mohammed could have been Misfiled (http://www.misfile.com/)

Being completely unable to draw a decent picture, I did this:

Drawing skill isn't required, heck my image above is just a quickie, not really good or anything.

Heck even O-|-< As Mohamed is perfectly good. :)

Well, it could certainly start a jihad, judging from the uproar over South Park's "portrayal" of Mohammed. If someone completely covered in a bear costume constitutes a portrayal of Mohammed, I'm Marie Antoinette -- and those stick figures sure as hell would do it, too.

Considering my Mohammad icon, I would have expected a small book worth of fatwas against me by now.

I'm not sure this ends up being as rebellious as you hoped, or even relevant for that matter.

Eh, if it does it does, if not, then tis' no big deal. Really it is just about the fact that we have the right to do so and to express that right if necessary.

My hope is that people do this and Muslims shrug it off as if it was nothing, that would be ideal.

If people drew Mohammad and Muslims just shrugged it off, or just rolled their eyes, then there would not be any need for a 'Draw Muhammad Day'.

I think that's rather fetching. :-) Seriously, you're right that there's one hell of a lot of hypocrisy going on here concerning the religious double standard: somehow it's okay to do unto Jesus and JHVH and Buddha and Odin and all the other Great Gods what it isn't okay to do to Mohammed and Allah. "Oh, we don't have any hang-ups when it comes to religion!" Want to make a bet, kids?

The weird part is that no one really ever attempts to draw Allah (who is never described in an anthropomorphic way in Islam), who is really suppose to be the only one worthy of worship in Islam, instead they are in uproar over his human messenger.

I remember seeing a Youtube cartoon with Allah directly represented in it once, he was drawn as a non-descript Muslim man in all white. That video, if I recall, received very little uproar.

None of this bruhahha by Muslims over images makes much sense, "straining at gnats and swallowing camels" as it does. This sort of behavior is indicative of seriously retarded people -- not "developmentally disabled," but retarded, dammit! A whole bunch of them badly need to grow up.

I seem to recall the winged horse having a woman's face. She was even a character in Sheba. (A comic that pissed me off by not publishing its final issues AS COMICS but instead incorporating them into the last collected volume as a big F.U. to the loyal fans).
