It has come to my attention via the estimable rm that there's a new widget on LJ that allows people to x-post their replies to an LJ entry to FB or Twitter ( Read more... )

Ugh. Do not want this invasive "feature."

Why on Earth would I ever want my comment to a post reposted somewhere other than the post to which I'm commenting?

Agreed! I might want now and then to crosspost a *post* to Twitter, either for Teh Lulz or to increase my hit-count, but I don't see why comments should be subject to the same regime.

Yes, I was not at all happy to learn about this new "feature." I won't crosspost anything, don't worry. It is very worrying that people can publicly crosspost comments to an flocked entry in my journal, especially when the function can be set as a default so people may not remember that what they say will shortly be made public.

Why have they even done this? It's not as if most comments would make sense posted outside the context of the post they're on. O_o

Anyway, no worries here - it's opt-in (thankfully) and I definitely won't be opting.

I've occasionally crossposted from LJ to FB and Twitter; but won't do anything to compromise the privacy of those who wish to keep their identities apart.
