THIS IS GREAT OH MY GOODNESS. Having just written a bunch of drunk/hungover Dunedain fic, I appreciate this about ten times over! For some reason it's a trope I love, both for the In Vino Veritas factor and the moments that you bring out so perfectly here, where our heroes are forced to grimly contend with the poor choices that we all eventually make at some point :).

I really love the detail of Aragorn being unwilling to drink to excess among the Dunedain for fear of shaming himself as leader of his people--and, on the flip side of hte coin, feeling like he can give himself into Too Much Mead as Thorongil because he is simply a random guy in Thengel's service.

And young Theoden!! I let out a cackle of glee *g*.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us--a fitting gift indeed for Cairistiona!

I'm so glad you liked it! I'm especially glad that you commented on Aragorn's willingness to let loose, so to speak, when he entered Thengel's service. It struck me as I was thinking over the Thorongil years that those first years in Thengel's service would have been the first taste Aragorn got of freedom from responsibility--his first and possibly only chance to be an ordinary man. It was that thought that inspired this fic, so it's good to know it came through.

(My apologies if this reply is a touch nonsensical; I'm currently under the influence of Too Much Bud;))

Thanks for the wonderful review! I look forward to reading lots of drunk!Dunedain fic. ;D

his first and possibly only chance to be an ordinary man.

Yes! I've never thought about it quite in that way before, but you're absolutely right, and what a good thought to spark this fic.
And hah, no apologies needed, and not nonsensical at all! I was perhaps under the influence of Too Much Mead myself when I read this last night, so it seemed/seems perfectly sensical to me *g* (in a nice coincidence, my friend had a combo Viking/Rohan Shieldmaiden-themed birthday party last night...definitely thought of this fic and Thorongil, and resolved not to have quite that much! :P)

And muahahaha, I enjoyed writing my drunk!Dunedain fic...poor Ivorwen is the main victim of excess in mine! :D

Ha! I'm giggling just at the title alone! I haven't had time to read this properly, but I fully intend to in the next day or two when the birthday stuff has calmed down. Thank you sooooooooo very much for surprising me with this! I know it will be more than worth the wait to read!

*hugs*

I did have a lovely time with the fam this weekend. And now this morning I've had time to read your story... and it's hilarious! And touching, as well, and as usual, you nail Thorongil perfectly. The idea of Aragorn finally being able to let his hair down and just be a regular person adds the perfect poignancy to this. Definitely elevates it from being a run-of-the-mill Aragorn-gets-drunk fic. But then, nothing you write is ever run-of-the-mill. :)

Thank you so much for writing it!

I enjoyed this very much, especially young Theoden.Poor Aragorn not knowing the strength of the mead.
One thought that came to me, would he not worry he might have betrayed his true name and origins while drunk?

Came here from the link in Cairistiona's post - and I'm so glad I did! This is awesome. Just hilarious, and so well done. Poor Aragorn - even if his plight is really his own fault. I can just see something like this occurring during his time as Thorongil. It hadn't occurred to me, the relief from responsibility he might have felt in first becoming Thorongil, but your perspective makes so much sense.

Really enjoyed reading this!
