Summary: As the son of a poor family in Harad, Hakim thought he knew what to expect out of life. But, when a stranger stumbles onto his land after escaping the Mountains of Shadow, he and his family see their lives upended.
Characters: Aragorn, Original Characters (with cameos by Faramir, Imrahil, and Angbor)
Hakim: The first-person narrator, he is seventeen in 2980. After the War of the Ring, he travels to Minas Tirith in hopes of ransoming his son, who marched with Sauron’s army and was captured on the Pelennor Fields.
Azzam: Hakim’s father. A landowner, farmer, and herder in Near Harad. A former soldier.
Asima: Hakim’s mother. A healer.
Kalima: Hakim’s sister, she is eight years old in 2980. As an adult, she continues to live on her brother’s land with her husband and children.
Dakheel: A Haradric name meaning “foreigner” or “stranger” which Azzam gives to Aragorn when he refuses to reveal his true name.
Setting: Near Harad (Third Age 2980) and Minas Tirith (Third Age 3019)
