I'd like to offer a big thank you to everybody who commented on the first vignette.  Here's Part 2, set during "Lay Down Your Burdens," (shortly before the Cloud Nine goes boom) in which a relationship becomes slightly . . . strained.

Quick comment because I need to make dinner, but my heart shouldn't have broken at that and it DID. Oh, for this to be canon. Not often you see Adama wish Felix well like this, and yet, it makes as much sense as him being more bitter. Also, I really liked seeing the parties among the crew.

And this?

I assume you don’t want to go to the surface so you can start a night club.

Needs to be written.

:) I'll have to keep that in mind next time I'm plotting a story . . .

I've seen some stories that show an angry or bitter Adama basically exiling Gaeta to New Caprica. While I'll agree that it's possible, I'm not sure it's supported by an "Unfinished Business" flashback. Felix basically corners Adama and Roslin on their hawt date and is going on and on about what they've accomplished in setting up New Cap. When he finally leaves, Roslin makes some crack about him being long-winded and Adama just laughs and says "he's a good kid." A scene that breaks my heart in retrospect.

Thanks for the feedback. If your heart broke at this chapter I wish you luck with the next four.

I never thought to wonder how Adama reacted to Gaeta signing up with Baltar. Your vignettes are so insightful, and so beautifully written I wouldn't be surprised to find them in a professionally published work. Excellent job.

Also, this?

I know who Gaius Baltar is, he told himself stubbornly, he can be trusted.

You are absolutely killing me. Because it's so spot on, and such a loaded thing for him to think.

Thanks for more great feedback! I hope you enjoy the rest of this story. Well, maybe "enjoy" isn't the right word . . .

I would go so far as to say "enjoy." Even though it breaks my heart, I do enjoy reading these.
