It's an action RPG. The first rule of A-RPGs is to abandon all sense of reason.

Kingdom Hearts is a prime example of this.

Yeah. That must be true. I assumed that the game would not actively promote animal cruelty because of its target audience, so I had to look at an FAQ to figure out how to get the god damn fishing rod.
Now I know: when in doubt, do something that would really piss off animal rights activists.
