late-night posting from an uncle...

Dec 19, 2007 03:10

Currently it is 3.11am (Eastern Summer Time) in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. I'm taking this opportunity to post because today, after training up for a little over 2 weeks in my new job, I was assessed as being competent to work on my own. This means I am changing over to my proper roster rather than the 5-days-a-week training schedule I was on, and that means that tomorrow (really actually today) I begin night shifts for the next 5 days. So to go 'cold turkey' from day shift to night shift I have decided to stay up all night (or as late as I can, and boy, am I tired right now!) so that I'll sleep from about 7am and be able to sleep well.

On to the real focus of this post...

My family and I spent a wonderful day on Sunday at my brother's house in Melbourne when we had a gathering that was primarily a birthday party, but in actual fact was a two-fold celebration.

Evie Marie O'Brien, my niece, turned 2 years old yesterday, and many of my family and friends showed up to celebrate. Being the first grandchild by birth in our family, Evie has had plenty of affection bestowed upon her and is quite animated as well. And did I mention that she is incredibly adorable too? Her hair is noticeably (and very beautifully) curly these days, which I find ironic because when her father (my bro) was a child he had an almost uncontrollable mop of curls also. The photo below shows Evie with one of her favourite people in the world, her grandmother, my mum.

The second part of the two-fold celebration was due to the fact that my sister-in-law (Evie's mum) just last week gave birth to her second child, a beautiful boy named Quinn Keagan (err, I'm really not sure how Keagan is spelt yet, but I'll edit this if I need to at a later date) O'Brien. For many of the attendees at the party, including myself and my family, it was the first time for them to meet Quinn. And what a placid, well-behaved little fella he is! I had a few nurses during the day (I honestly do love young babies) and also changed him once (not lying, some blokes can do that sort of thing you know) and I do not remember him crying once during the whole time we were there. And how handsome is Quinn? I think my Bro and his wife have a good mix of genes...anyway, you can judge for yourself:

And last, but far from least, I was never going to finish this post without getting a shot of Quinn with his favourite uncle in. And I'm wondering if this is the first time many of you have seen me with my glasses, which I've only had since about June this year. We really do make quite a dashing pair, eh...

birthday, evie, quinn
