I read a lot about the Wiscon brouhaha, and one of the great things that came out of it was that I discovered a bunch of authors I was unfamiliar with. There were several authors who not only wrote good responses, but I thought their message was so powerful that I wanted to support them the best way I know how - and that was to buy their books. The joyful bonus was that I loved nearly all of them.

That is the best possible result, and isn't it wild how that works? The undergraduate philosophy major in me almost wants a good counterexample, somebody whose work I love that isn't the same side of the argument as I am. But by and large, yeah, people who are interested in their fellow human beings in all their variety write better books than people who aren't.
