- The Awakening is a completely ordinary romance novel, except for the ending. The ending is kind of ingenius; the whole thing turns realistic but sort of remarkable. I think it was only assigned as a history lesson.

The Awakening to me, was kind of anti-romance. But i know what you mean. Not to get all up in the feminists' grill, but it was pretty clear she was going to turn out to be her own woman after the first chapter or two.

Also i think this was the first time in literature that birds had been thematically tied to freedom.

I meant actual feathered birds. The Eastenders definition adds like six other layers to it.
