Wow, the fandoms I never knew anything about... I did always like that Kit's a great surrogate brother for Molly, but pairing them up? Why are people always so fascinated with pairing off kids? (Even when older, if they had grown up as brother and sister, I really doubt they'd want to pursue a relationship like that.)
I too am sad that Eva Gabor died before another Rescuers could be made, but at the same time, the series ended on a great note with Bernard finally getting to propose. I love that scene. ^_^
I'm always a bit iffy with L/G. I adore it in the actual series, but they've become something in the fandom that I really do not like at all. Call me crazy, but I am loathe about fanfics and the like that focus solely on Lina and Gourry's secret sex life. I find no enjoyment from seeing the two 'cheapened' like that. (I do love images like the one you posted. Why can't fic writers see that Gourry showing Lina a nice gesture speaks much more loudly than shuffling them off into a corner to make out?)
Pairing off very young kids always struck me as weird, too. Though I can kind of understand the appeal of the "childhood sweetheart" thing in fanfics where kid characters are aged up. Kit and Molly shippers aren't abundant (as far as I could tell); but the fact that they're around at all is strange. Even if you ignore the surrogate sibling thing, the age difference makes it weird. And I know I could never date somebody that I used to baby sit! >_<
It is good that the Rescuers series at least got to end with a bang. And it got to serve as the inspiration for one of my favorite Disney Afternoon shows. :)
I agree that it does feel wrong when Lina and Gourry act like some unholy combination of romance novel heroines and porn stars. But fics about Lina and Gourry "making out in a corner" aren't all bad. It's just that very few writers manage to get the characters' dynamic right.
I do know crazier things have happened with kids falling in love later as adults...but yeah, when they're that close to being siblings and even act like siblings..bleh, no.
Yes, thank you, The Rescuers, for spawning Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers! I need to pull out my Dale plush in all his loud Hawaiian shirt of glory to celebrate. ^_-
Few writers is right. I have seen it done well, but most seem to focus too much on the physical and not at all on the characters. As it is, I'm still sticking to canon Slayers sources for my L/G fix, it always leaves me with a smile...not a feeling of horror or disgust!
