One of the few downsides to being Jewish is the lack of cool holiday specials that celebrate our culture and traditions. Off the top of my head, the only movies/TV specials I can think of that center around Jewish holidays are "very special episodes" of goyim shows where the main character(s) entertain a Jewish friend, Yentl (which is depressing

Yes. But, sadly, being Jewish doesn't necessarily make a person talented. :P

IMO, Eight Crazy Nights failed because it spent the first 3/4 of the movie being a typical "Adam Sandler gross out comedy" and then tried to tack on a schmaltzy holiday message at the end. It would have been nice if he had made the movie G-rated so it could air on TV each year alongside other animated Christmas specials. But it ended up being too crude to air on broadcast TV and too childish to air on Comedy Central or Adult Swim.

I'm surprised Tara Strong wasn't particularly bothered by all the racist jokes targeting Jews in Drawn Together. She actually addressed this when she appeared on Rob Paulsen's podcast. She recognized that Drawn Together was supposed to be crude and terrible and was willing to roll with it. If you've never seen The Hebrew Hammer, it's basically about a reluctant Jewish superhero who has to save Chanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa when Santa Claus' heir turns out to be a psychotic, racist bastard intent on wiping out all the non-Christian holidays.

Well, it wouldn't probably be all that connected to Chanukkah but there's also the Fiddler on the Roof musical/movie. True, I've never actually SEEN it but I read the book it's based on (Tevye the Dairyman and the Railroad Stories, by Sholem Aleichem) - and loved it. :)
