I don't think it was a matter of being in love, she didn't say that. She said she fell for him which implies the way she was acting towards him during their "date" wasn't all a front. She was genuinely starting to like him and not just because she had to. At least that's what I got from it.

I totally agree that THIS scene was so much bigger and so, so much better.
