Finals period has revealed to me something about myself of which I was not aware: I work best while listening to music heavy on the pianos and the drums. Regina Spektor, Stars, and Eskimo Joe have been my standbys the past few days, and I think The Fray would probably be good too. I think it's because the drums drive me along while the piano is ( Read more... )

I can't listen to music and concentrate on anything else at the same time. It just takes too much of my brain over to listen to it... sometimes I can't even have the radio on in another room and read a novel without getting distracted. So I'm afraid I'm not much help!

Hmmm, maybe try Imogen Heap? I'm not sure if she's got enough drums though.

It's interesting how that works, isn't it? There are times where the music does that, too, kind of taking over my whole brain, but there are other times (and certain kinds of music) when it just seems to focus my mind. I don't know!

There are a couple of Imogen Heap songs that I like - that might be good. Thanks!

Rachael (yes, the spelling is weird) Yamagata: her album "Happenstance" is very drum+piano+pretty girl's voice, and I find Nellie McKay very much the same type of music, especially "The Dog Song", "Clonie", "It's a Pose" and "Change the World" - some of her other songs are a little too chill for what you want, I think, although anything she sings is amazing.

Ooh, awesome, thanks! I quite like "It's a Pose"; I'll have to look into Rachael Yamagata, too. :D

Augustana! Very heavy on the piano. Similar sound to The Fray. :)

Ooh, I liked "Boston"! Is their other stuff good, too?

Yup. I've listened to their album 'All the Stars and the Boulevards' countless of times. However, not had a chance yet to listen to their newer stuff yet. I need to make a point of doing so.
