I've managed to get myself hooked on Gossip Girl, much to my chagrin. No idea how or why, but there it is. BUT: it does mean I notice things like the fact that on this week's episode, Bart Bass's secretary's name is Mrs. Landingham. Someone on the writing staff is a West Wing fan. :P
It'd also mean I'd never see Chuck's SEQUIN TUXEDO. AMAZING. (He looked good, though. Very attractive boy (who happens to be older than me, but he's playing a high school senior, ok?). When his hair isn't ridiculous. And Blair was quite pretty, too - loved her dress.)
Anyway. Point of this entry is: I won't be around on my birthday, so the drabbles won't be up then. I'm going to London! Yay!
Eskimo Joe is playing a concert there Thursday night, and I had to go. Thursday is going to rock: my 20th birthday (OH MY GOD GUYS I'LL BE TWO DECADES OLD), weekend in London, and an awesome concert. :D But the drabbles won't be up until Sunday/Monday, that means. Not that you're waiting, just that I wanted you to know. :D
ALSO ALSO: I don't know how many of you know - I didn't know until a few days ago - but! Last week Coldplay released a companion EP to Viva La Vida, or Death and All His Friends called Prospekt's March. If you liked Viva La Vida, DOWNLOAD IT. It's got a version of "Lost!" with Jay-Z (which, I like what they were going for, but I like less the actual song) and "Life in Technicolor" with lyrics (AWESOME), a gorgeous short instrumental piece called "Postcards from Far Away", and my two favorite new songs, "Glass of Water" and "Rainy Day" (SO PRETTY, GUYS. I adore "Rainy Day"). It doesn't have the genius of Viva La Vida, clearly, because that genius was mostly due to the fact that I'd never heard anything like that album, whereas this is basically just an extension of that one. In addition to the three overlapping songs, there are a lot of the same elements, but it's all a little softer, less epic, like "Strawberry Swing" was. But for what it is (which is to say, leftovers), it's excellent, and I've been listening to it basically nonstop for the past two days.
Before that, of course, was The Killers new album, Day & Age, which is great. The first single, "Human" (the one you've probably heard, the one with the line "Are we human, or are we dancer?"), is actually one of my least favorite songs, because the lyrics are so heavyhanded, and it annoyed me after I listened to it twice. But the newest single, "Spaceman", is wonderful and originally catchy (I've been singing the refrain in my head for almost a week), and it's another of those albums (like Viva La Vida) where most of the songs would make terrible singles, but each song is different from the next while still being so cohesive it's hard to listen to the songs out of order or individually. Other highlights are "Losing Touch" and "The World We Live In", but honestly, almost every song has some bit that I adore, even if the song as a whole doesn't really work for me. There are none that I skip, and that's impressive.
When I started this LJ, I really just wanted to talk television. Clearly, as you can see from my past few entries, this has changed. :P
