[ Yeah, Keiichi, if you don't think they would answer THEY WILL since that's apparently just how Ushiromiyas work. ]

Bored? I'd say there's enough going on with all these people acting like idiots while meanwhile you can only wonder if they screwed around with your mind as well without you noticing.

He just invited me for a game too. Don't you want to see what your sister is capable of as well?

... Don't think I'd go easy on you though. [ AKA YOU'RE GOING DOWN, BATTLER. ] That wouldn't be fair to Keiichi either, after all. [ After which she shoots Keiichi a glance too, with another tiny shrug. ]

It's not a problem, is it? The more players the bigger the challenge, it's just us three anyway, so don't worry about unannounced challengers appearing.

[He can't help to smile at Ange's words.]

That's true, we're here to play a game but not to go easy on each other. The club's games have all one common rule: no matter who ends at the top, there will always be one loser. And no one wants to be the loser and face the penalty game, right?

[Though it is possible to end a game with several losers and only one winner, it takes a lot of effort and a really majestic gameplay so its a rare happening. Anyway, he will lead them inside and to a table to sit at. A card deck already sitting in the center of the table waiting to be used.]

Show me your masterful skill, Keiichi.

[He pauses and glances over at Ange.]

Ange, make sure you pay attention or else you'll be the one facing the utmost punishment. Ange I know how you'll handle this. You're far too serious about trivial things like games and you hate losing. Don't worry Battler Onii-chan won't go easy on you just because you're six.

[ BATTLER, WHAT ARE YOU MAKING HER LOOK LIKE IN FRONT OF KEIICHI.. She was already sitting down at the table, but now she has already sat down she shoots Battler a deadpan look that's almost near a glare. ]

I'm eighteen, onii-chan. And like Keiichi said just now, nobody wants to be the loser, right..? You should worry about yourself rather than about me if you don't want to end up being the one who loses and gets the punishment game.

[ He's pretty much spot on about being too serious over trivial things, yup. THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS FOR HER. ]

I hope we'll be able to have an enjoyable game though, Keiichi.

[Just because she's six he says... There's no way Keiichi's not going to comment on that.]

At the risk of sounding like a pervert and earning a punch... Your sister looks pretty hot despite being six, you may want to watch out for when she's sixteen or so.

[Laughing now, he doesn't know what's going on about that but... In Luceti it could be anything so it doesn't really matter.]

But I think you get the wrong idea again Battler, taking those games seriously is the only way to make sure you don't lose. No matter who the opponent is or how old they are, you shouldn't underestimate them in those games.

I'm sure it will be enjoyable, though maybe before we start I should give a warning? If you're not a fan of intense competitions then it would be better to step down now. Normally there's only one loser... But it wouldn't be the first time there are two losers if they can't handle the intensity.

[Battler remembers her being six but..DETAILS!]

Don't get any ideas. I wouldn't want to have some unlucky man hitting on my sister like it was the seventeenth century.

I've been through a lot of intense competitions. You have no idea who you're talking to, Keiichi. My experience will knock you into the water.

I'll let you get away with it just this special occasion, Keiichi. You're right, usually I'd punch a guy like that, although I'd make sure to at least tell them < good night, have a nice dream > before that.

[ DEAPAN AS EVER even when talking about punching people.. So pure and innocent, clearly. ]

And don't worry, I doubt it's anything I can't handle. I'm not known for losing easily, you know.

Uh, wait I thought you only said that when you were about to conquer an obstacle or discover a truth. Punching me is none of those.

[Also he thought the one doing the punching would be Battler, so he would get double punched? Man, that's cheating.]

Well, you both seem pretty confident so let's go on. Have either of you ever played a game known as "Old Maid"?

[Battler's not exactly the type to use violence but... Ange, maybe. You might get away with one punch if you're lucky. He'd rather be silent for now...that is until Keiichi brings up the other question.]

No, I haven't. But you did tell me about it before so I'm interested in hearing the rules of this game of yours.

What can I say? I'm a versatile person. [ There's just a tiny shrug with that. Sorry, Keiichi, Bernkastel didn't tell you all of Ange's Engrish. ]

Old Maid.. I've heard of it vaguely, but I haven't actually played it before.

It's a pretty easy game. We have a normal deck of fifty two cards and one queen is chosen to be the Old Maid, the other three are removed from the deck right away.

[Keiichi takes the first card on the top and shows it, it's the Queen of Spades.]

We will go with this one as the Old Maid, remember it, the Queen of Spades won't be your friend in this game. Then we deal all the cards among us three and we discard all the pairs we get. Like, if you get three fours, you discard two and keep one.

After that the game is simple, we go clockwise, offering our hand to the player on our left who has to pick up a card, if the card matches one they already have in their hand, they put the pair down. If not, they keep it, simple, right? Of course, the Old Maid has no pair, so someone will be forcefully left with one card at the end of the game, the Old Maid. That person shall endure the penalty game as the loser of the game.

Easy? Aren't you contradicting your previous sentiment with that statement? Earlier you said the game would be difficult but all right. If that's what you're saying then that's how it is. I have no choice but to take your word for it.

Queen of Spades? It seems like a wild card in this game, interesting. I'm grasping the concepts easily enough. It doesn't seem all that challenging, but still I can't afford to let my guard down with that kind of set up.

[He's just going to sit here with the most smug expression ever.]

I accept these terms. Ange, how about you? Did you catch all that?

[Action] repudiationist June 25 2011, 15:51:48 UTC
[ Contrary to Battler, Ange just sits there with.. well, her usual indifferent expression. SEE ALL THE SHITS SHE GIVES. ]

Of course. It's pretty easy like Keiichi just said either way.. Every player keeps putting down pairs until one person is left with the Queen card, the Old Maid. And that's the loser.

[ A tiny shrug. ]

I don't think it would be too hard to play.

I never claimed that the games themselves weren't easy. The game is easy, the playing is where things get trickier. For starters, this deck...

[He shows them the back of the cards, they are all normal and equal, like every deck is. The only thing that could be said in special of them is that they are pretty worn out, cards obviously used for many games during a long time.]

I've been playing with this deck since I arrived at Luceti, it's not marked other than the normal marks a deck would get from use. But I know this deck, I can recognize each card quite easily based just on the worn out state they have. There's no trick to it other than paying attention to them and knowing them, but it's possible to come to recognize them in a short amount of time if you pay attention.

[Which basically means that at least in his case the picking up of cards from them won't be so random.]Also, though the objective of the game is to get rid of all your cards, you could also see it as the game's objective being to push the Old Maid and all the cards ( ... )

If you know what kind of cards you're going to draw before hand that'll put things in your favor. Ange and I are starting off as new players so that automatically puts us at a serious disadvantage.

This isn't a game of luck anymore. It's a game of skill. Now I'm painfully aware of how ignorant I was when I naively threw out those pitiful comments.

[Battler falls silent for a moment, he starts thinking of ways to screw with the deck but that's all in his head.

He looks as confident as ever.]
