Media Update for Episode 5.06 Buyout

Aug 26, 2012 22:27

It's a long one this week--lots of goodies. Picked a bad week to let RL get in the way *sigh*

You may need to be a bit careful with some of the interviews as there might be a few wee spoilers lurking, although nothing too detailed in terms of info, more *hints* at upcoming eps. Feel free to add any links I've missed via the comments.

I have to say, Gilligan has really hit on a masterpiece formula here - evolving Walter White from everyday man/sympathetic character to more and more of a complete anti-hero type. Kind of a darker and more dangerous version of Dirty Harry, in a way. Even Dirty Harry still lives by a code of ethics and the law, and he still works within the confines of the authority of his legitimate superiors.

Walt recognizes no authority now except his own, and I think the first major clash under this new regime is gonna be with the Phoenix guys who want that methylamine.

I can't wait for tonight :D

I actually think Walt's evolution goes one step further than sympathetic everyman--->anti-hero. He's gone from an anti-hero, an entirely relatable character engaging in criminal activity, to a villian who manipulates all those around him to suit his needs and inflated ego. Even Gus had a stricter moral code than Walt does. Gus was the one I most likened to a Dirty Harry vigilante type, if anything, and the Western-type scene when he walked into Casa Tranquilla in Face Off seemed to reflect that ( ... )
