My Current Personal Oscar Ballot Picspam

Notes: This is a fairly weak category right now too but I honestly wouldn’t mind if Levitt ended up my #1 this year. Oddly, this should eventually be a pretty great year for Best Actor with Clooney, Firth and Bridges in a good three-way race. There’s also Morgan Freeman and possibly Daniel Day-Lewis in the mix. Right now, I'm giving my win to ( Read more... )

I totally thought she was in when Bright Star came out, but apparently buzz has seriously died. The top 3 (Streep, Mulligan, Sidibe) are gonna be impossible to displace and both Mirren, Cotillard and Ronan have baity roles but I think Cornish still has a chance.

Thanks! The Hurt Locker should do well with Oscar nods I think! The critics awards start coming out soon and I think it'll get a lot of love from them.

You missed out foreign language movies!

What about "Let The Right One In"? I haven't seen "Thirst" but wouldn't that be worth noting too?

Also, call me crazy, but I think Drag Me To Hell ought to be mentioned somewhere....

Let the Right One In I believe is considered a 2008 release so it wouldn't qualify.

Drag Me to Hell is on my "have not seen" list at the top.

Was just about to mention another one, but it turns out that's in your "to watch" list too: In The Loop. It looks like you've got quite a few treats in store for you. :)

BTW can you explain the fuss over Precious? I mean, it looks very worthy and while I'm sure the acting is impeccable, the trailer doesn't give the impression that it's something I'm going to enjoy watching. Do you need to be in the right mood for it? (While this might seem silly, in the back of the mind I'm imagining that it's "Dangerous Minds" only from a pupil's point of view. Having only recently finished my training as a teacher, I'm worried that I'm going to be gritting my teeth throughout.)

I've heard great things about In the Loop, I just didn't get around to seeing it. When I actually had the time to see it, it was mostly out of theaters.

Precious is DEFINITELY not a movie that you "enjoy" at all. I think it is mostly a really great acting piece. If you're interested, I actually have a review of it if you scroll down my journal.

As much as I loved Star Trek, I have a feeling it won't be anywhere at the Oscars except for the technical awards. The Academy doesn't really like science fiction :(

Yeah, I'm not predicting it for BP either.
