It's so good to hear how the trio's acting has improved since that was always a continuing weakness throughout the film series.

LOL at the H/Hr stuff. When my dad and I would go to see the films as they came out over the years, I remember how he always thought (being someone who's never read the books mind you, strictly a HP!movie guy) Harry and Hermione would end up together because that's how the films seem to make it out to be, or that there's this big love triangle or whatever going on. So he was absolutely shocked when I told him that Ron/Hermione were end game in the books so they were going to, of course, end up together in the movies as well. I really don't understand why the films were laid out in this manner, that there is this big, epic R/Hr/H triangle when there's not. Not that I'm a huge Ginny/Harry fan (in fact I really never liked the idea of H/G or Ginny in general at all) but at least in the books, you know where Harry's eventual romantic feelings lie. In the movies eh, not so much. I chalk it up to be the filmmakers ( ... )

They really have and there was no weak link in this one, which before, there was always one person who seemed to lagged. Emma and Rupert get the most drama in this half of course, but I expect Dan will get his big moments in the second half.

I know so many people who aren't big fans of the books who think exactly that! Stupid Hollywood always has to make a love triangle where there isn't one. I agree that H/G in the books were not fully convincing either, but I really appreciated the fact the JK Rowling didn't go there with a H/Hr/R love triangle (it's all just in Ron's head, lol). I HATE it when best friends have to go through a love triangle just because it creates drama. Its like they have enough drama trying to defeat Voldemort and with their families, etc.

I guess this movie is really just catering to fans, because critics have no investment in whether a scene from the book makes it or gets cut.

I'm not reading since I haven't had the chance to see it yet, but I sort of feel like I don't care if it doesn't feel like a whole movie. I'd rather they really get all of the scenes in there and done well then worry about making a cohesive story. Once the second part is out, I'll probably watch it all as one long movie anyway. Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, I'm glad all the important scenes made it cause I think this would've been totally incoherent if they had to fit everything in one movie. And it's true, once the second movie comes out, everything will fit together hopefully.

I thought about it & I guess the problem is that the Dursleys have always sort of been comic relief/one-note characters in all the other movies (or not in there at all), so I suppose having an emotional-ish good-bye scene wouldn't have worked. Which is a shame. We sort of got a shot of Petunia looking worried or anxious or whatever...do we think we'll see the stuff with her in "The Prince's Tale," like when she wrote to Dumbledore and all? I kinda think they're gonna cut it. :\

Ginny, you are such a tease. You live in a house full of people and you had to come all the way downstairs to find someone to zip up your dress.HA! Right?! She is so shameless. I wish we'd seen more of her badassness, because I really kinda like book!Ginny and how tough and outspoken she is--she really goes after what she wants, and I like that. In the movie...not really. She just sort of randomly shows up and snogs people. All righty ( ... )

Good point about the Dursleys. I always forget that the movies always reduce their roles, I guess a big emotional goodbye would've seemed odd to people who had never read the books. But I guess it's nice that they even showed them at all. I hope Petunia doesn't get cut out of the Prince's Tale! The second half does have fewer pages to cover and more time, so maybe they'll try to be accurate ( ... )

Yeah, I mean, in HBP they actually legit date for a while, but then they break up because of his ~quest~ and whatever. In the movie, she kisses him and says "you can keep that locked in here too" or whatever, implying that she doesn't think he wants to be with her or something. And she's supposed to be the love of his life. Um, what. In the final scene, Hermione says "Ron's OK with it, don't worry!", and that just seems super-random. Oh well. I don't really care, but I'd think the H/G fans are way pissed.

I think this one has a decent chance of some Oscar noms--HBP did get Art Direction or whatever--and I definitely think the second one will get stuff, just because they're so epic and huge and usually fairly well-reviewed and it's the last one and all.

Exactly! In the books, you always know Ginny is 'the one' for Harry after the events of HBP cause they actually had a relationship and they had an understanding about why they couldn't be together. In the movies, it's like OK so they've kissed twice, but he doesn't seem like he's pining after her at all. You're right, they could've just shown him looking at her picture once or when Ron's listening to the radio all the time, Harry could've acted really worried about Ginny or something. ANYTHING to let us know that his romantic feelings are not for Hermione but Ginny. Silly Hollywood and their need for love triangle drama!

I think this would get nominated for at least art direction and visuals. If the second part gets better reviews, then maybe more stuff!
