What? Uma didn't even get nominated for Kill Bill? :O She was amazing in those movies, can't wait for the third part. :)

it was a typical supportive wife in a biopic role
I agree. I mean she was great and all, but I think that her role in Election showed more of her talent/range.

Yep, she was snubbed for both Vol. 1 and 2.

I loved Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, although I'm not sure that I would have nominated her.

I think Reese Witherspoon is one of those actresses who plays the same type of role over and over and over again. She basically won an Oscar because the Oscars had an identity crisis and forgot they weren't the Grammy's that year (ditto to Jennifer Hudson). However, the only time I ever liked Witherspoon was in Election.

Yeah, I think Reese basically won cause a) 2005 was a terrible year for Best Actress and b) she's America's sweetheart who turned in a serious performance a la Julia Roberts.

Frickin' WORD about Uma. It's all awesome (I tend to think of it as one movie, since that was QT's origina vision), but everything from "Freeze, Mommy!" on in the second part is sheer brilliance. I am so stupid in love with his long dialogue scenes; he always picks just the right actors to pull them off. (And I need to see more of these movies, clearly. ;) )

I LOVED THAT SCENE. Cause it's like you think that QT's gonna go right into the action/killing like the other ones but then he gives you this super long period of just dialogue. And omg, I still get chills everytime I hear the superman analogy.

I agree so hard with Reese Witherspoon and Uma Thurman (haven't seen the other films, so I can't really comment on those performances). Reese was magnificent and iconic in Election; I really wish she would pick more roles like that instead of rom-coms. She's more talented than her film selections suggest. She has this inner bitch that's really fun to watch, more so than some of her rom-com princess roles. Uma was fantastic in the Kill Bill films of course, but I feel like the Academy is only willing to nominate certain kinds of roles for women. Unless you're in a corset, a hooker with a heart of gold, in a biopic, a young ingenue uglying yourself up, or spend the majority of the film sobbing I feel like you don't get nominated most of the time. Uma was fierce and glorious but I don't think the Academy appreciates roles for women that are more action oriented. I think she should have been nominated for two of her major scenes with Bill - the black and white church scene and the scene right before his death - alone.

Reese is a great comedic actress but unfortunately, most comedies that come out of Hollywood are crappy rom-coms like Sweet Home Alabama or whatever. She should work with Alexander Payne again or maybe Wes Anderson cause they would definitely put her talent to good use.

You're right, it's very hard for any kind of action roles to get nominated especially for women. But still, it's not like that was the typical action female hero who's really just there to be eye candy.
