Ah, that's how we vote for all our politicians down here. We're used to the system.

One minor thing to note: it doesn't necessarily have to get down to the last two. As soon as one film has over 50% of the vote then it all stops and that film is the winner. There's no reason to go further.

The only thing we have here that compares is the Iowa Caucus. Of course, when it comes to our General Elections, there's only 2 legit candidates so there's no use for it.

Yeah, you're right. But I think this might be a pretty close year, most likely down to Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker. Obviously had this system been in place last year, I doubt it would've come down to the last 2 or even 3. Slumdog Millionaire would been declared the winner pretty early.

I'm reading this with my friend from a youth hostel in Belgium... =P. We both understood it!
She actually turned to me and said "This is really interesting!" So props for explaining this the way you did.

I haven't seen The Hurt Locker yet but I really want to be behind it, especially if the race comes down to The Hurt Locker and Avatar. =).

This system seems to work not only against Avatar, but also FOR you as someone who disliked the movie so much. haha.

And, btw, I really liked that you compared it to something political. I love American politics!!!

Oh good. I'm glad!

Haha, I took a lot of time figuring out all the voting methods of different states in 2008. It got even more complicated cause of the whole proportional delegates and stuff. That primary seriously took over my life.

I was watching that race very closely, too. But not to the extent that you did, I'm assuming =P. But I did take AP US Government in high school so I'm kind of familiar with the wacky voting system =).
But I dare say that I was rooting for Hillary =,(. I guess it still makes me a little sad that she lost. But hey! What can you do? At least there's a democrat in the White House. I would take Barack Obama over John McCain any day.

Oh and I think The Hurt Locker does benefit a lot from this system, but I think any number of other films could also benefit and put them in a better position than they normally would be in a regular system.
