Culture Shock

For the first time in my 22 years of visiting Brazil I experienced culture shock. Last night, my eldest cousin, Tatiana, and her boyfriend came over and had dinner with my aunt, grandmother, other cousin, and myself. During dinner, a news clip on TV about a huge gay pride parade taking place tomorrow in downtown São Paulo sparked a "conversation"

Just say something next time. Nothing like a fiery debate amongst family members. I was the only one in my [Cuban] family who thought that Elian should be shipped first class back to Cuba. Wow, that was interesting.

Oh, I sooo know what you're talking about. People know not to discuss that issue around me b/c I blow up at anybody who even considers denying gays the right to marriage. It's absurd. I'm not going to go into it b/c I could go on forever but . . . I know my family has similar views to yours and I'm glad they haven't brought it up in conversation yet b/c I'm not as disciplined as you.
