[Vignette] I Got a Project for You

Sep 05, 2006 19:20

Who: Donavon (NPC), Katric (NPC)
When: Day 10, Month 5, Turn 2, 7th Pass
Where: Outside High Reaches Weyr; G'thon's Room, High Reaches Weyr
What: Donavon and Katric have business to take care of.

An hour before the sun crept above the horizon, Donavon slipped out of the Weyr. Venturing ino the forest, he set a path to the east, following the vague track of humans' passage. The faint trail terminated at a small clearing, currently occupied by a small campfire, a smattering of belongings, and little else.

"Katric!"" Donavon hissed, turning about as he stepped carefully into the clearing. "Katric, are you--oh, Faranth, man. Don't do that." Katric, emerging quickly from the trees behind him, grinned at Donavon's startlement.

"What're you doing out here?" he asked curiously.

"I got a project for you," Donavon answered gruffly, glowering--he didn't take kindly to surprises. "If we've time. I've been waiting out here on you for--"

"All of thirty seconds?" suggested the former healer, an observation that did very little to improve Donavon's mood. In compensation, Katric tried another charming smile, as ineffective as the first.

"Like I said. I got a project for you. You got any fellis or anything laying around, or do we need to stop and get some?"

Katric released a quiet 'oh'--so it was that kind of project. Grimacing, he shook his head in answer. "Nothing, not a drop."

"Well, whatever. Grab your stuff--you'll be in for a while. I know a guy in the infirmary that can get us what we need," Donavon decided quickly. And that was that: Donavon put out the fire while Katric threw his meager belongings into a pack, and then together they set off for the Weyr.

"Do you think it's straight?" Donavon asked, many hours later, as he stood back from the work with his hands on his hips.

"Donavon, it's a body stuck to a bookcase," Katric answered dryly. "I think that's the least of our worries."

Donavon wrinkled his nose, eyeing the corpse of Leyron, now draped morbidly from G'thon's bookcase. A perfectionist, the man stepped forward again to move one cold hand, arranging it more artfully across a particular tome before dusting off his own hands.

"Okay, that's it. We should get out of here before he gets back from dinner, much as I'd love to stay and see his face," he announced then. "Anyway, we still have a little bit more business to discuss..." Trailing off with a meaningful smirk for Katric, Donavon slid the room's door open again, peeking out. The corridor was empty, and, gesturing for Katric to follow, he struck a nonchalant path back through the hallways of the Weyr.
