Yeah, that's the thing about the "statutory" part of it.

He plead guilty to that as a lesser charge, because the alternative was facing the greater ones, which were rape by means of drugging (whatever the actual legal phrasing for that is), and the whole "lewd acts" thing. Age factored into it because of a plea bargain. If she were 26 and events transpired just as they did, it's still rape.

NOT THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TO BE MAKING THESE KINDS OF QUALIFICATIONSFUA:HJFKALHG:Gh

BUT ANDREA YOU CAN'T HAVE THE TORTURED SUPER-ANGUISH OF "THE PIANO" WITHOUT BREAKING A FEW PRE-TEENS. THAT'S JUST THE ENTRY FEE.

MEANWHILE ON OTHER INTERNETS:

A: "Uhhh, rape is pretty bad, guys"

B: "CHINATOWN!!!!!"

The fact that people use his work as a reason why he shouldn't be punished makes me want to pull my hair out. I MEAN, COME ON, PEOPLE. JESUS.

I saw a documentary about the case where they interviewed the victim as an adult. I don't remember much of it, but I do remember that it slanted in the direction of blaming the girl's mother for putting her in the situation. It really played up the whole "HIS LIFE WAS HARD AND THIS GIRL'S MOM WANTED CONNECTIONS" angle. I wish I could remember how they handled the victim interviews.

Dude needs to go to jail. A+++ post.
