Fleur, or at least the actress who played her in GoF, is officially not going to be in the HBP film. I'm not surprised though I am disappointed

Wow. That's all I can say. His statement is, as you said, brilliant. I can't believe all the hullaballoo over some of his decisions. If you can't have an open intellectual and ideological environment in an academic setting, then where the hell can you have it? Grrr.

I know! The craziest thing to me is the latests major controversy, over the Sex Worker's Art Show, doesn't make any sense. It is a touring show. This is the third year in a row it has been at W&M and there was no controversy before. It was at Duke the day before it was at W&M and at another Virginia college (George Mason) the day after it was at W&M and there was no controversy there. Yet somehow it being at W&M this year was enough to get members of the Virginia House of Delegates calling for our President's removal? There's footage at youtube of some of the speeches made by Delegates in assembly about it and it is completely ridiculous.
This will sound like an awfully lightweight subject to be addressing here, but Fleur's absence could possibly indicate that there will be marginally more attention paid to Remus/Tonks as the "adult" background romance for the remainder of the movie series, since we know that both Thewlis and Tena are returning. I mean, if they can't be used to lend poignancy to the proceedings because of their marital struggles, their deaths at the end won't contain any resonance whatsoever, so the movie makers may as well go for it.

You seem to be assuming that there has to be an adult background romance and I'm not sure why. As the books get longer, the movies have to have a tighter focus. Thematic issues and subplots have and will be dropped. From the vantage point of focusing in on the main plot and dropping everything else by the wayside, there is no need for any adult relationship and certainly not specifically for Remus and Tonks. Knowing the actors are returning is a more convincing rationale for assuming there will be some R/T, but I'm still skeptical. They could just be there for the battle with no other scenes and no explicit mention of their relationship.
Well, it would be nice for WB to throw adult fans a bone, but I agree, who knows what they're thinking at this point?
Don't forget also that we have seen Hagrid/Olympe already, however poorly that was portrayed, so they're not eliminating the suggestion of relationships beyond the kids entirely.
In addition, considering that Harry becomes involved in the results of their marriage, as Teddy's godfather who ends up partly raising him, the greatest "tight-focus" character of the story is not completely divorced himself from this particular subplot.
And there is always the possibility that DH will be split in two, leaving more subplots open to inclusion. Wouldn't it be ironic if that led to a greater opportunity for more R/T? (And mind you, I'm talking about maybe ten minutes within the space of three 2 1/2 hr movies here.)
But I certainly agree that we'll have to wait and see what we get. I haven't forgotten how incidental both Remus and Tonks were to OotP, despite there being no need for it whatsoever in the case of the former.
