Okay. I am back, I think. Got a shiny new laptop for work, which should help me separate out "time to do my stuff" from "time to do work stuff" from "just staring at a laptop because that's what I've been doing for the past 6 hours

It is fab! The only thing I don't like is that paid time off is accrued instead of handed out at the beginning of the year/whenever you start working. I know in the long run it's a better deal, as it can accrue for 3 years instead of getting reset annually, but still. I am currently vacation-poor in the middle of summer. :(
Otherwise, though--love the stuff I'm doing, love the people I'm working with, and am still getting used the working somewhere that will just... give me stuff. They asked if anyone needed equipment, I said "well, a new laptop would be nice?" And within a week I had the schmanciest laptop I've ever owned, with the only constraints from my boss being "you didn't pick out a nice enough laptop, I'm going to get one that's twice as expensive as what you wanted". Previous job, it took months to convince people I needed a new machine, despite the one I had being the process of actively dying.
Definitely some (positive) culture shock on my end!
