Saw this on the big screen this past Saturday and was blown away by how beautiful/visually interesting the cinematography still is, after all these decades and changes in convention. So I figured we'd take a little break from the usual SPN screen caps and admire an old classic

Totally agree with all your observations. The Cyd Charisse scene is visually fascinating. I actually had to re-watch it a couple of times to be sure whether the stripes were creating the illusion of steps, or whether they were disguising the steps and creating the illusion of a flat surface! :D

Another of my favourite things about the movie was when I learned about the in joke that Jean Hagen actually sang all her own numbers, so in the scene where we think we're watching Kathy Selden being recorded over Lina Lamont, we're actually watching Debbie Reynolds lip-syncing to Jean Hagen's voice. Brilliant! :D

I *thought* it didn't sound quite like "Kathy Seldon" when they showed the musical number at the end of the The Dancing Cavalier--good to know it wasn't just my ears playing tricks. ;P
