Written as needed background for Dean's character in the first chapter of ETWI. Probably won't make sense without that. Might not make sense even with that. But I'm trying to post more stuff, so here 'tis. (Vague spoiler-warning for a few details, I guess.)

I am so glad this is not the way Dean grew up. I am torn between being horrified at this stunted version of a man and fascinated by how you are telling this story. You write so well that this is believable - and I don't want it to be!
I am looking forward to all the installments....

Yeah, we're kind of cruel to Dean in this fic--at the start, at least. Things improve significantly for him from here, and later on some of the stuff he goes through will be less awful than in canon, so it probably mostly balances out in the long run.

Glad you're finding this interesting! deadlybride and I are trying very hard to keep everything reasonable and anchored in the canon of the show--while still accessible as its own individual story. It's been a fun challenge so far. :)

I really like these glimpses into the Men of Letters "perfect soldier". Really makes me wonder what his reaction to Bobby, not to mention Cas, will be!

Yeah, his relationship with Bobby is going to be quite different; Cas too, but we haven't worked that out fully yet.

Glad you're enjoying these!

*The Perfect Soldier* is horiffying, I mean this is such an easy read in the sense it doesn't drag you out or make you remember it's not real, but the idea of that perfect solider is SO scary!

Yeah--'perfect soldier', except that he's basically been kept locked up his entire life. It's going to take him a little while to acclimate to general society. But once he does--!

(Our original summary for the series was "Flowers in the Bunker", if you're familiar with that reference.)
