Friday is Scrutinize Your Personal Faults Day!

So the Man and I were talking last night about blogs (this has become an unsettlingly frequent topic in our house and it's all my fault...), and he raised a good point about why he hates them. Namely that despite the pleasure I and many other voyeurs get from reading the "diaries" of complete strangers, very few people are ever truly revealing a ( Read more... )

if blogs in general contained more examples such as this of people laying themselves bare....if they recounted a somewhat less polished portrayal of the human condition....i would be a much greater fan. :)

Yeah, well, on the other hand, they'd probably all sound the same too... considering that the "human condition" is pretty fucking boring and predictable overall... but at least you could just choose from a list of entries every day. Such as... Monday: post about why my wife is thinking of leaving me because I'm impotent. Tuesday: an in-depth examination of shit I found in my car while cleaning it out. Wednesday: why everyone hates me. Thursday: I don't like my job/mother/boss/house very much. Friday: yay, it's Friday!

(but... uhm... thanks though... and it's your fault anyway. :) )

hahahah....that's just it though....i'd much prefer to read about someone's erectile dysfunction....or deep seated hatred of their mother.....or even the strange shit they found in their car....than the boring soupy muck that makes up most people's blogs....composed of equal parts smug 'look at what an opinionated yindie i am' and 'artistic' incoherence (random pictures...unintelligible commentary...nonstop inside jokes)...

wow, i sound a lot more bitter than i actually am ;)

lol you should read my blog then. no talk of ED except how it turned me on quite a bit to learn the molecular mechanism of viagra. lots of "i hate my familiy", and other such blatherings.

ahh, sometimes the alter ego is more interesting than the real person, if the individual plays it right.

I don't know if I agree with such a sentiment. My blog started out as a journal. I have been keeping journals since I was 12 in an effort to document my true thoughts and feeling, regardless of what others would think. I am what I write. I don't dress myself up in my blogging, I expose myself. I am never more truthful and open with my emotions than I am when I am furiously typing away my (not always so carefully crafted) confessions. Even if no one read my blog, I'd still do it the same way I do every day. In fact, I kept my LJ for damn near a year before I made any online friends.

Let me just say that my husband hates blogging as well. However, his reasoning is that I share the deepest secrets of my inner most self with people other than him. This topic has been known to inspire jealousy in his heart. I tried to explain to him that it's like going to AA and confessing your problems to strangers. Still, he detests it.

Well, I have no way of knowing obviously, but in my humble opinion, pretty much everything you write comes across as refreshingly honest. So I hereby declare you exempt from this categorical damnation. ;) And, of course, that's why I enjoy reading your journal.

I can certainly understand why your hubby would be jealous... I'd be incredibly jealous myself, even if LJ is your own personal confession booth. On the other hand, I would be willing to bet that he somehow, knowingly or not, benefits from your online unburdenings indirectly.

There is an exception (or two) to every rule.

Yes, he benefits. Little does he know that the very people he's jealous of serve to be the only true voices of reason in my head from time to time.
