Well, moderately amusing to my fellow nerds who have love in their hearts for and/or sick fascination with vintage advertising:

The fair city of Sarasota has apparently seen fit to create* created a special (voluntary) license plate for the front of local cars. (Florida is one of a handful of states that don't require front plates.) The design ( Read more... )

oh my lord, that plate rules. i suppose one has to be a florida driver to get one, huh?

I did a little more research and discovered that they're actually not new, and have already been yanked off the market because... I kid you not... the tourism industry here felt it was counterproductive to "breaking down the fallacy" that Florida summers are hot. DUDE. HELLO.

Too bad. I wanted one too.

well, that sucks a lot, though i can't argue with their reasoning. i mean, when your summers are as mild and temperate as those in sarasota, florida, you don't want people getting the wrong idea.

(also, i feel like your tourism board contains the relatives of the people in north dakota who wanted to drop 'north' from the name because it was too associated with cold.)

SubCanadian Dakota it is! Or how about New & Improved Dakota? You know, because South Dakota was really just a beta-test for the awesomeness that is New Dakota.

Or perhaps Icy Fresh Blast Dakota® would be more in keeping with the zeitgeist of our generation.

That bikini ad is HOT. BUT whenever I look at vintage ads, I think about how they look now. Sometimes that hinders my enjoyment of the T&A.
