i think you should do the song cover but shouldnt be saying the word. do the version that is on the radio: i aint saying she's a gold digger but she aint messing with no broke, no broke
it's actually catchier than the original (i think)
This is actually a great idea - it's not the same song that you quoted, but the lyrics can be manipulated in exactly the same way, and it works. Thanks for that!
I was just listening to this song (and love it, BTW), and had an idea.
Well, firstly - my own thoughts were already nicely summarized by my hubby when it comes to "nigger". All of my life I've heard it used a pejorative towards those with more melanin, and for the past 20 or so years have heard it used by such folks as a reclaimed term - much as I'll use "faggot" or "queen". Hell, I have bio-relatives in the heart of the Appalachians (east Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, eastern Kentucky, southern West Virgnia) who, to this day, drop the term into everyday conversation, especially when referring to the current President of the U.S. Their vocabulary choices are just one of the multitude of reasons that I've been around any of 'em but once in the last 7 or so years, and then only because it was my uncle's funeral in 2007.
ANYway, my idea: when/if you decide to perform the song, change "nigga" to "dig it". This keeps the same early-70's vibe that the music has, it scans, and it semi-somewhat rhymes as well.
If it were me performing it I'd be tempted to suddenly stop for two beats when That Word comes up, give the audience a Look, and then resume. But whether that would fit with your personal style, I dunno...
