Sweet Alabama Werewolves.

Being a fan of furry music and of sing-alongs, I have been meaning to learn both "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd and "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon, with the intent of being able to do a mash-up of the two songs, since the two are practically the same song with different instrumentation and different lyrics - not to mention that they ( Read more... )

mash-up, kid rock, all summer long, warren zevon, music, performance, sweet home alabama, songs, werewolves of london, lynyrd skynyrd, feral!

Sweet mash up idea.

A fun, free program; Audacity.

I'd love to jam on some Warren Zevon some time. Let me know if you need some need some backup.

They're all (it's a?) really easy songs - 3 chords, repeated over and over. But they all have clever signature bits that make them a little more difficult. :)

Next jam we'll pull 'em out and see what happens. :)

Also, you're the second person to recommend Audacity to me this week, but for some reason I have this sense that someone else I know used it for a while and hated it. Hmm.

That was one of the workout songs that was played in the gym while I was on the treadmill. I was very disappointed it wasn't Werewolves of London :)

This reminds me of the mash-up of "Boulevard Of Broken dreams" with "Wonderwall" and a few other bits tossed in, as presented by "Dean Gray" (not Green Day, of course.) That would also be fun to try to re-create on guitars.

You should learn those two songs, but forget that hack.. be your own artist.

I have some thoughts of pulling it out at a sing-along, you start with a verse of "Sweet Home Alabama", then I'll butt in with "Werewolves of London", maybe divide the crowd and have them sing against one another...

Either that, or use it as the basis of a cabin skit in which Warren Zevon (RIP) and deceased members of Lynyrd Skynyrd (RIP) ridicule Kid Rock for his "homage". :)

Seeing as I (along with probably most other people) have trouble thinking of lyrics for one song while singing another, I think this could be a fun improv-y type thing to do... stretching the gray matter.

Ages and ages ago I would sing the lyrics to random songs over a blues riff, and it sometimes turned out really fun and/or memorable. We should try that sometime.

Well, depends a lot on the song(s). It's pretty easy to sing the lyrics to "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals, for example - there's the right number of syllables. The music for "Werewolves of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama" are close enough (both are D C G G ad nauseum, with slight variations/nuances/instrumentation differences). Allow me to present:

Werewolves of Alabama
by Zevon Skynyrd
