Ianto Jones had come to a decision. He didn’t want to do it and he knew it might hurt Jack. But he had to. He knew he needed to.
It was early morning and the others hadn’t come in yet. Ianto had again spent the night with Jack and they’d made love again. Ianto knew it might be the last time for a while.
He made Jack his coffee, then went back into his office and placed it on the desk. Jack grinned when he saw up, getting up from behind his desk and giving him a long, deep snog.
“I love being able to do that, my beautiful boy,” he whispered, huskily when they broke apart.
Ianto smiled a little, putting his hands on Jack’s strong chest. “I love it too.”
Jack pulled back, leaning against his desk and looking at Ianto. “Are you all right?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Only…”
“What? Come on. Tell me.”
Ianto sighed and looked Jack in the eye. “I’m asking permission to leave.”
“Leave? What, no! You can’t resign. You can’t!”
Ianto put his hands on Jack’s shoulders. “I’m not resigning. I’m…asking for a leave of absence.”
Jack frowned. “Why? Ianto, I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to leave.”
“I need to. Just listen, Jack. Please.”
Jack folded his arms across his chest and looked decidedly unhappy.
Ianto began to speak slowly. “I have to face some things. I have to face…that Lisa’s gone.”
“Why do you have to go away to do that?”
“I have to go to where she died.”
“That’s your living room. You don’t have to fucking go anywhere.”
Ianto leaned forward and kissed Jack’s cheek tenderly. “I’m going to Canary Wharf. That’s where she died. That’s where I lost Lisa. She wasn’t Lisa by the time I got her here.”
“I don’t want you to go.”
“I know. But I have to.”
Jack sighed, then stood. “I’ll come with you. I can take a day off, leave Owen in charge.”
“No, Jack. I need to go by myself. And I’m going to be more than a day. Do I have your permission to take a leave of absence?”
Jack eyed him. “You’re coming back?”
“Yes, I’m coming back.”
“Okay, if you promise, you can be away for as long as you like.”
Ianto smiled. “Thank you.”
He kissed Jack’s warm lips softly. “I promise I’ll be back. I love you.”
Jack looked into his eyes. “Love you too.”
Ianto nodded, smiled, then turned and left. He could feel Jack watching him as he went. Ianto didn’t want to leave. But he knew he had to.
