The first thing that Ianto saw was the purple. He could see it everywhere but then it got inside him, slipped inside his very skin and he was part of it. For a moment, he fought instinctively, but something, perhaps the strong hand encasing his, stopped him.

He let out a long sigh and let the purple haze slip inside him.

“Is it safe?” he found himself whispering to Jack.

Jack squeezed his hand. “Completely.”

They moved forwards through the crowd. Ianto gazed around. There was all sorts of different people here, different shapes and sizes. Different colours. Now he looked closer, he could see, feel, all the different colours.

There was blue, pale blue and deep blue. There was red, a rich and warm red, filling Ianto with passion. There was soft green, easing Ianto inside. And the purple. The purple was there more than any other colour. It made him feel alive and strong. It made him feel as though he was staring into the depth of life.

Jack was still leading him forwards, slowly, gently but firm, as always. His grip on his hand was tight and comforting and Ianto knew he would always be there for him. Something about Jack made Ianto think of forever. Jack was forever.

Suddenly, Ianto saw silver. It was the only silver in the room and it was in the face watching him with kind eyes. The eyes were slit downwards into the narrow cheeks and a purple light shone out of them. But all around it was the silver and Ianto couldn’t breathe.

The person, the alien, reached out and touched Ianto’s cheek. He’d expected cold hands but they weren’t. They were warm and soft and seemed to hold an energy which Ianto could just feel, teasing at his skin.

“Please,” he whispered, though somehow he knew he didn’t need words.

The alien didn’t move or speak but Ianto felt its smile, felt the warm it felt for him. And he felt good.

The hand moved a little, cupping Ianto’s cheek with its slim silver fingers and Ianto could feel something passing into him. Something like peace. It touched him inside, in that cold place inside his chest. It felt the ache inside Ianto and soothed it. The ache didn’t go away but there was so much light and warm around it that it didn’t tear him apart any more. Ianto felt whole.

“Thank you,” he whispered.

Again, Ianto felt the alien’s smile through his entire body, and then they were moving on, winding through the crowd and Ianto could feel them all, feel them sharing each other, and sharing the light with him.

Slowly, Jack led him all the way through the bar and out of the far door and Ianto felt settled.

“Okay?” Jack asked, when they were once more in the cool night air.

Ianto leaned against Jack. “Don’t speak,” he whispered. “You’ll ruin it.”

Jack put his arm around Ianto’s waist and supported him as they walked. He pressed a soft kiss to Ianto’s forehead and Ianto smiled, the purple and the silver now settled inside him.
