...but the faculty of the University of North Carolina wasn't paying attention. Hat tip to Kristine Denholm.

Pah. What is the world coming to? I think the swim test requirement is a good thing. (Although I thought UNC got rid of the swim test a couple of years ago, so I'm confused....)

Speaking as someone who did learn to swim as a child (having taken swim classes several summers in a row), but who nearly drowned twice during UNC's swim test (no, really), I shed no tears at the abolition of this test as a graduation requirement.

Incidentally, the Boston Globe ran an article today about MIT's swim test:

This is a travesty. I'm not sure who's behind this, but my money is on multiculturalist effete liberal east coast intellectuals. Or possibily Muslims. After all, does it not say in the Koran: "Ye shall not teach the infidel to swim"? Clearly this is part of a larger plot to keep good honest Americans from being prepared for the next (water-related) terrorist attack ( ... )

"wow... you know you're an alumni when: you are upset about something like this."

Amen, Brothers and Sisters!

Did I mention how I used to have to walk to class uphill both ways in the snow from Winston Dorm?
