the only email i get is from... freakin... livejournal notifying me i have comments. not that i dont appreciate the comments, mind you - its just i dont get any mail from anyone personally

I feel your pain. And half the time no one comments anyway. And LJ effs it up and doesn't send me all the comment notifications.
