Christmas morning breaks brilliant and glittering, with a fresh coat of snow covering the path to the door. It's the first Christmas in the cottage, and Bran and Will are both determined that everything will be perfect, and so elated that whatever happens, it could hardly be anything but. It begins with the little gifts, left in stockings over the ( Read more... )

How Abby had conned him into this...well, he knew exactly how. He should have been spending time with his sister and the rest of his family.and instead he was on the island. It wasn't entirely so bad except during the holidays that were always family events. He'd occasionally had to miss them because of work, but he'd been in the area.

"Thanks for having me," he said, smiling a little. But any friends and family of Abby were his, too.

"No offense," Tim said, "but I don't like second-hand information." He shrugged a little. "It's just never the same coming from someone else. But I suspect one of these days, I'll get it from you. Just not today."

Bran shrugs, fiddling with the dark glasses he hasn't been wearing indoors, but are always close by in his pocket. "You know how some of the people here seem like they come from book or film universes? Superheroes and things?"

Tim snorted. "When I keep getting accosted by Lex Luthor and try to convince Di-uh, someone to join the IPD? Yeah. I know something about that."

"Lex Luthor? Really?" Bran looks interested. "Wow. Well, my father is King Arthur. Suffice to say there are quite a few possibilities for that to come up in conversation."

Abby had indeed conned Tim into it, though there hadn't been much conning. More of a plaintive stare and then maybe a well-placed pout and he'd agreed. Plus what else was he going to do? Sit in their communal yurt and stare at the walls? Boring.

She brought him some cider. "Have some superheated filtered crushed apple parts. It's yummy."

"There was no nuclear material used in the heating of these crushed apple parts, right, Abby?" Tim said, taking a sip of the cider. She was right. It was yummy.

"Only if someone here's holding out on the lab," she shrugged. "Because I would definitely be interested in nuclear energy. I still haven't figured out what runs the generators."

"Fine, then. Whatever that thing is that McKay is holding in reserve over in New Atlantis. That's got to be even worse than nuclear." Well, not worse or else there'd be warnings about it. "So how's your Christmas so far?"

"The ZPM? Yeah, I don't think I'd want that thing to go off in any way shape or form. Kaboomie, and not the good kind," she agreed.

"It's been great. Y'know, if we'd been in DC, I totally would have dragged you home with me one of these years, assuming we didn't have a case over Christmas."

Tim looked at her for a minute and then took her glass from her and put both drinks down. "I know, Abby." He took a step closer and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tightly. He kissed her temple and whispered, "Merry Christmas," into her ear.
