So I take my little pen drive to TY's office to go over the slides for my talk. We talk. We finish. he hits "Save" then pops out the pen drive. I go back to my computer and open the file

He apparently had OpenOffice installed on his machine. It has a tendency to set itself as the default office package, and subsequently save things in its own format when prompted to save.

I take it you didn't have backups on your hard drive? :-(

Nope. I was using Jeff's laptop to make the slides on Sunday, so it was just on the pen drive. Like a dope, I didn't save to my HD here at work.

That's quite alright. I've found the best way for me to deal with times like that is to laugh.
