I get a little irritated at the idea that if I (or anyone else) doesn't post about something, whether it's remembering 9/11 or about the Tsunami or Hurricane Katrina or "insert disaster of your choice" that it means we're heartless and don't care or that we've somehow forgotten. As much as I love LJ (because so many of my friends are here) my life is not confined to it.
As a matter of fact I was going to not post anything at all yesterday as my way to remember and pay respects but decided to post something after all. But mostly for myself.
I didn't post this year; I am not sure (and not looking if I do post). The years it fell on a day off I was able to do my favorite thing - walk the park with headphones on, enjoying the weather but also keeping track of the tributes. This year was odd - I found myself dodging any mention of it if I could - I acknowledge the need for but dislike the renactment of that day (people tend to zone out) - even doing that I had three such conversations.
I like what you said about it being personal. This was the first year I couldn't make our local tribute - but did run into the traffic leaving it. I also chose not to listen to the victims' list being read. But we will never forget - and you, brain-night-long are part of the memories of that day. Thanks for the striking, beautifula and poignant photo - I think it of interest that if fell on the 100th day of your 365 that I do keep track of. Cheers to those who survived, those who didn't and to those who endure.
I also just noticed that you have several entries that I haven't seen. I guess LJ's gone from not showing me mosinging1986's entries to not letting me see yours. Why oh why must LJ mess with entries from two of my favorite people? BAH HUMBUG!
Looks like I've got some catching up to do since you had a lot of entries during the convention last week!
And yeah, LJ is being a real pain lately. I've encountered the same problem with mo's LJ again recently. I don't think I've had the problem with yours yet. This is certainly not endearing me to stick with LJ as a blogging platform :p As I've said before, you, mo, and a handful of others are the only reason I've stayed.
Well, DUH! brain_nightlong and mosinging1986 = two of the only sane people on LJ ... well, sane where it matters, anyway ;)
Actually, I have quite a few "sane" people on my FL, but you two will always be my favorites. You were two of the first fellow conservatives that I found on LJ :)
But yeah, I haven't had any problems with Mo's for a while :::knock wood::: and your last couple of entries have shown up. So hopefully whatever it was is over.
You sure can. It was a last minute drive to Liberty State Park (which is also nice on the other 364 days of the year, heheh) that night. I can't remember if the ferry there only goes to Ellis Island and Liberty Island or whether some from lower manhattan go there too.
Which entry? LJ is being a major pain and not showing me some entries of some people. Last f-locked entry of yours I see is the Hugh Laurie cover (my $.02? I miss him on BBC's "Spooks", but he seems to be rather successful on House so I can't begrudge him that), but you probably mean the Palin email post? ;) I think it's disgusting, but typical of this election. That the Obama camp hasn't even commented much less condemned it speaks volumes. Half the media is making the hackers out to be heroes. This is going to get uglier as we get to November.
