This was beautifully bitter sweet, luv, I enjoyed it. Poor Mel, he really held it together for as long as he could, but in the end it overwhelmed him. I think this is one of the instances where Mel's actually had a chance to really process his so-called undoing. Other times it's been such a whirlwind that I'm sure it didn't hit him until later, so this was interesting to see.

I think this is one of the instances where Mel's actually had a chance to really process his so-called undoing. Other times it's been such a whirlwind that I'm sure it didn't hit him until later, so this was interesting to see.
That's true, usually he's so caught up in events that he can't see the unraveling until it's too late. Here he saw his life taken from him, piece by piece, and it hurt.
I also thought that Johnny's manipulation was in character, though darker than I would ordinarily write him. I always remember the way he talked to Billie in the film and told her to "Say it" about loving him, which suggested a controlling streak. This Johnny doesn't even see what he did wrong. He truly believes he did what's best for Mel. He may have, but Mel still deserved the choice.
