I wanted him to kick Carl's ass!

Or let Diana kick it.

This is a great story.

LOL! Yes, either way, Carl would have been in big trouble! :)

This is a great story.

Thank you, Green Eyes! I always appreciate your comments. :)

Oh, Carl. You do need an ass kicking.

As for Steve. Wow. I think I may need to set aside some time and re-examine my attitudes towards him, based purely on how likeable he is in this story. I just keep wanting to hug him.

*claps hands* You make me very happy, Pervy! :) I haven't taken his characterization out of thin air, just modernized it from the Golden Age and added things of my own (comics rarely mention a character's religion, after all) but I definitely believe that Diana would never love someone, man or woman, who wasn't worthy of her love.

The Steve I loved as a mate for Diana didn't mind that she was stronger than him, and he possessed courage and a good heart. Sometimes he was cocky and a touch arrogant, but in this story, the war has dampened those traits.

I like this exchange, because it sets the story against a very realistic historical backdrop and because it shows us simultaneously that Steve is a good man.

*looks forward to more.*

Thank you! I'm glad that it worked that way. :)

Diana and Steve here are both just wonderful, and the way you use them to play off traditional gender roles is gorgeous!

She saw the looks of the men and the envy of the women, her heart going out to her sisters, who had been trained to view their fellow females as rivals, not allies.

Aw, that's a very nice, and very Diana, line. I would think women in Man's World would be as mystifying to her as the men, warped by the rules of the society...

Jewels glittering in the moonlight, she took his hand, allowing him to draw her to him. They stood together for several moments, arms around each other, then returned to the party.

The moment of sympathetic silence here is so lovely. It almost glows, like a moonstone. Just gorgeous.

Thank you! It's a theme that fits well with Diana and Steve. :)

Diana is a wonderful character in that she can comment on our society even better than Clark can. While he too can feel apart and shake his head at human behavior, he grew up among us and is very American/human in many ways. Diana sees thing with a sharp outsider's perspective while assimilating herself to some degree to her adopted country.
