Yep, I knew it, re: Han's fate. I've been trying to find spoilers for days now but with zero luck, so thank you for this.

It sounds like J.J. Abrams didn't trash SW the way he did ST, so that's something.

I'll check it out when it comes out on DVD. That's good enough for me.

Poor Han! It was a pretty intense moment.

Yeah, not a big fan of J.J.

You can definitely wait but it's still worth seeing even on DVD. :)

Thanks for a balanced review and a blow-by-blow of the repeats. We haven't seen it yet, but have gotten all the spoilers out of the way. I'm still a little surprised that it wasn't Luke behind that Vader mask, but that's what they wanted you to think.

One of these days, we will get there. Until then, Merry Christmas!

Wow, Luke behind the mask would've been quite the thing! But hopefully he gets more screen time in Episode VIII.

Don't be too sure. I heard that Harrison Ford is part of the cast for the next film. I don't know if that's true or not. Fun if so!

I'm seeing it on New Year's Day, but I'd already heard much of what you reported. Like rileyc, I was really afraid that Abrams would make the same unholy hell of a mess with Star Wars that he did with Star Trek. Glad to hear that that isn't the case. But it does sound as if the biggest flaw is his overuse of things from the previous movies. Yeah, he definitely does that.

They certainly seemed to drop the prequel trilogy and give us more of what we wanted. A pity it had to be so derivative.

I'm inspired with some SW ideas, too! :)

The backstory. whether canon or fanon, should be interesting! :)

I deliberately avoided all spoilers and only saw the movie today, so I thought I'd comment on your review now.

I'm with you on the repeats. I noticed a lot of the same formula, and of course the "I have a bad feeling about this" cliches. Having said that, I loved it. Most of it. So did my Mum.

Han's death was predictable. As soon as Leia said to Han to confront Ben, I had the feeling it wouldn't end well. Still, if Harrison is part of the cast for the next one, maybe he will come back in spirit.

Who knows?

Heh, I like Han's iconic line. :)

Yeah, I definitely knew something was up for poor Han. :(

I'm hoping the next installment will be outstanding, as The Empire Strikes Back surpassed A New Hope.
