Last week was the 150th anniversary of Appomattox, Lee's surrender to Grant at that worthy courthouse. Today is the 150th anniversary of John Wilkes Booth shooting Abraham Lincoln. The President died the next day.

It's one of those events where you wonder, what would history have been like if Lincoln had lived? )

It does make you wonder, just how differently things would have played out. I do think Reconstruction would have been better. More like the Marshall Plan than an occupying force. May Booth rot in hell.

There would have been a Reconstruction, but a far less harsh one under Lincoln. And I do believe that African-Americans would have ended up better. There would always be racism and probably attempts at restrictive laws, but it might not have reached the levels of Jim Crow.

Lincoln and his wife Mary had plans to visit the Holy Land after his term was up and he was looking forward to life without the burden of war. At least he got it for a week. :(
